RESURFACING WORK TO BEGIN ON INDIANA AVENUE

Indiana Avenue from Oak Street to Washington Street in West Bend will be closed to through traffic starting on August 27, 2010. The closure is expected to last one week, weather permitting. A detour route will be in place.

This final phase of the work consists of grinding off a layer of existing pavement, placing some pavement to shape and level the road, adjusting manholes and valve boxes; and finally placing a new layer of asphaltic concrete pavement onto the existing pavement.

During this phase of the construction the street will be closed to traffic and parking will not be allowed on the street. At Edgewood Lane and at Water Street cross traffic will be allowed for visitors and employees for Washington County services, Gehl Company, and the baseball fields. At all other road and alley intersections, cross traffic will be prohibited. Detour signs will be posted. Motorists are asked to select alternate routes, exercise caution, observe construction signs, obey flagmen, and be alert for heavy construction equipment, while work is in progress.

In keeping with information passed around earlier this summer, a competitive, traveling baseball option is coming in the 2011 season. If interested, please contact the specific age group contacts below.

Open workouts geared towards the competitive, traveling option will be held at the diamonds on 9/12 and 9/19 from 10 am to Noon at the diamonds. Tryouts scheduled for 9/26 pending interest and turnout.

The West Bend Educators’ Sunbirds took The West Bend Jr. League Fast-Pitch Championship 10-1 over MC Sports Riptide. The Sunbirds broke open a 4-0 pitching duel between Sally Mundinger and Riptide’s Brooklyn Ermer with six runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Mundinger added three hits and drove in three runs. Megan Kiefert had two hits and two RBI’s as well. For Riptide, Abby Rychtik had the lone RBI. Mundinger got the win with relief help from Ryleigh Allcox.

The Sunbirds reached the title game defeating The Downtown Dental Thunder 6-4. Ashley Zander had two hits and Allcox three. Mundinger struck out 6 and walked two. Losing pitcher Angela Wyzek knocked out three hits and three RBI’s.

MC Sports Riptide reached the finals beating The Amazin’ A’s 16-2. Chloe and Madi Pufahl each had two hits and two RBI’s. Alyssa Helm had two hits for The A’s.

In the third place game, Downtown Dental got past The A’s 16-8. Sara Fechter had two hits and pitched the win for Downtown Dental. Candice Wiza doubled as did Randee Witz. Megan Drews, Aubree Olson, and Katy Banovich doubled for The A’s.

The A’s defeated The Westbury Bank Glory 7-0 in an opening round game.

The Racers defeated The Heat 6-3 to win the rain extended West Bend Majors Little League Tournament. Jichelle Generales struck out five in the final two innings for the win. Katelyn Wagner, Megan Ringgenberg, and Aimee Solheim had solo home runs for the Racers. Sydney Faehling had two hits for The Heat.

In the third place game, The Force edged The Bandits 8-7. Kayla Larson and Sydney Stern rapped out two hits. Molly Mundinger struck out three to preserve the win.

To reach the finals, The Racers got past The Bandits 4-1. Katelyn Weber homered and drove in two runs. Alexis Darkow squeezed in the lead run for The Racers.

In a preliminary game, The Heat was all over The Force 21-6. Emily Breckenridge, Mikalya Klitzman, and Caitlin Jacak knocked out three hits each. Alaine Michels had two hits for The Force. Sydney Roell pitched the win.

Congratulations to the U13 Bulldog team! The U13's took 2nd place in the Reedsburg tournament!

The U9 Bulldogs beat Germantown 22 - 1 in the Championship game in the Richfield tournament today to take the tourney! Way to go U9 Bulldogs!

Congratulations to the Brewers for winning the Junior League Championship! It was close game, 6 - 4. Diamondbacks: thanks for a great season and we hope to see you again soon on the diamonds!
